Rhum Charette

Charette traditional white rum is the most famous of Reunion’s rums. Charette rum is a must-have on he island, where it is used for everything, including Creole punch and the famous homemade “arrangĂ©” rums macerated with spices and tropical fruits that everyone on Reunion makes directly in the bottle.

For 300 years now, people have been growing sugar cane on the slopes of a tropical volcano. Their story is the story of Reunion Island: sugar and Charette rum. Sugar cane has been grown for three centuries on this unique French Indian Ocean Island, with its rich, intense mixture of cultures woven together by history. CHarette began in 1972 when all the distilleries on the island came together to pool their knowledge and produce a unique, authentic rum inspired by the spirit of Reunion. Launched under the generic name “Rhum Blanc” (white rum), it was quickly renamed “Rhum Charette” by the people of Reunion as a reference to the illustration of an ox and cart (“charette” in French) chosen for the very first label. A true emblem of Reunion, Rhum Charette has become the leading rum brand in France, with more than five million liters sold every year.
