“CIHUATÁN” means “next to the woman” in Nahuat. Legend has it that many centuries ago, an ancient Mayan goddess chose the Cihuatán valley for the Maya to build a legendary city. Today, she still protects this valley and can be seen in the shape of a mountain. We fondly refer to our patron goddess as “The Sleeping Woman”.

• Legend has it that the Cihuatán valley was hand picked by a Mayan goddess for them to expand their empire between 900 and 1200 A.D. Here the Maya became unparalleled astronomers, mathematicians and merchants.
• Under this goddess’ grace and inspired by this Mayan legacy of knowledge and wonder, we
founded our distillery in the former home of the ancient Mayan metropolis of Cihuatán
